Making A Legal Will

Before making a Legal Will it is a good idea to think about your answers to a few important questions. This could help reduce the time necessary and allow you to make decisions carefully rather than feel pressured to do so "on the spot". If you need more information before you can answer these questions don't worry, the Notary can provide that information when you meet or even before via email.

Here are some questions to consider:

• Who would you like to appoint as your Executor (usually a trusted friend or relative who will be responsible for seeing that the terms of your Will are carried out)?
• Who would serve as a back up if your Executor wasn't able to act?
• Are there any specific things you wish to leave to a particular person?
• Who will receive the remainder of your estate?
• What if they do not survive you?
• Do you need to appoint a guardian for any minor children? Who will be a back up if they could not act as guardian?

These are just to help you start thinking about the things we will discuss when making a Legal Will. As said, you will be able to discuss them further when you meet the Notary. 

If you are also getting your Power of Attorney and Personal Directive for healthcare done at the same time, consider who you would want to entrust with the responsibility to manage your financial and health care decisions if you are not able to do so yourself. Who would be your backup if that person was unable to act?
